I am a bit confused by Philip's comments in the article and on the programme "you have been fired". He seemed to accept that he had deserved much of the criticism levelled at him on the programme, so surely he could not really complain about being fired.

Maybe the article quotes his feelings immediately after having been fired. Perhaps having reviewed things in the intervening period and in response to the comments by Adrian Chiles and the panel on 'You're Fired', he conceded in some measure to other points of view? I was surprised for example, that he admitted his feelings for Kate so candidly on the 'You're Fired' show. Also, there was a great deal of bravado about him during his time on The Apprentice. Perhaps that's what we were seeing in the board room and immediately after he was fired. It was difficult to maintain that in the face of the issues that were put to him on the 'You're Fired' show. Perhaps he's learnt from the criticism that was levelled at him.

How interesting. In that clip at least it clearly shows that Philip and Kate were wound up in each other during that task - or he was making efforts to get her attention on a personal level - and both of them were taking it in a relaxed, easy way.

I think Kate was particularly stung by the allegation post boardroom that her professionalism was affected by her relationship with Philip, in my view because there was a grain of truth in it. It might have been Philip who was the one distracting from the task in the main by initiating flirting, but she was receptive. She wasn't exactly telling him to put the flirtatious behaviour on the back burner and concentrate on the task. Lorraine should have put them in different sub teams.

I think there's some truth as well to Lorraine's assertion that Philip and Kate believed on some level that it didn't matter if they didn't make so much effort as based on what they saw as their past performance, it would be Lorraine as project leader who would be fired if the team failed. They might not have been fully aware that's what they thought, but I believe it was one of their underlying assumptions. I think they both thought they were better candidates - as Philip argued in the boardroom, but was unable to substantiate. In Philip's case, his assessment of his past performance was somewhat skewed in my opinion. I couldn't believe that he argued in front of Sir Alan that he'd won the previous week, when in fact he'd made a loss - just not as large a loss as the other team! It was nothing to use to commend himself! Rather than putting forth a coherent argument, I felt he was just grasping at straws. He wasn't a great tactician in terms of arguing his corner.

But the article is also recent, as was the "you're fired" show, which is incongruous. :p

I completely agree with all this.

I do think at some subconscious level that the sub team thought that if they lost it was Lorraine that would suffer the consequences. I still think they tried hard, but perhaps they were less concerned by failure and as a result were quite chirpy.

Philip did seem to be doing the flirting in the cab shot and Kate seemed to be politely fending it off, and I think she was desperate to detach herself from Philip in the boardroom once the accusation of collusion and unprofessionalism was made.
