One good place to start for a wide variety of avatars is
http://www.heathersanimations.com/

If you want an avatar of a well known object e.g. saxophone, person etc, an image search in google usually gives good results. In google, enter the name of the object in the text field as usual, and click the image link above the text field. The results will mostly be real life photos.

Actually I did mine this afternoon on photoshop, which I'm really proud of. Dead easy after you have done it then just upload it, all very quickly done - thanks for the tip cariad.

Oh blimey don't mention Photoshop to Flossie - he gets all excited! 8-)

When he found out I used to be a photographer he tried to engage me in the technicalities of pixels and stuff 8-D

Of all the decent applications on a PC, Photoshop is right up there. Wouldn't be seen using anything else :)

Just don't admit to a fascination with steam operation or evolutionary biology ;)
